Make sure your car’s lights are working properly. During the winter months, it gets dark earlier, leaving many people to drive home from work in the dark. Make sure headlights and taillights are in good condition so you have plenty of illumination!
Check tire pressure. When the temperature of the air drops, so does tire pressure. When tire pressure’s too low, it can result in possible tread separation and faster wearing of tires – and it could also result in an accident. When temperatures drop 10 degrees or more, check the pressure and inflate to the manufacturer’s recommendation.
Don’t forget to check the antifreeze! The last thing you want is your engine to freeze, so make sure the coolant is filled to the proper level.
Make sure your heater and defroster are functioning properly. The heater keeps you warm and toasty during your commute, while the defroster clears the windows of ice or frost so you can clearly see to drive. Check the operation of both before cold temperatures set in.
While daytime temperatures in Hawaii rarely drop below 75 degrees regardless of the season, we know there are lots of states in the U.S. that experience frigid temperatures during winter. Hopefully, these tips will help keep you safe, and your car in good condition!
