According to recent reports, VW claimed that in just 24 hours there were more than 10,000 pre-orders for the ID 3 electric hatchback which will sell for $33,600, and under 30,000 euros. The official launch of the electric VW is slated for September at the Frankfurt Motor Show.
Where does Volkswagen get the ID 3 name? The auto giant says it’s the third major evolution in VW’s history, following the Golf and the Beetle “bug.” Jurgen Stackmann announced on Twitter May 9th that over 10,000 registrations (pre-orders) were received in 24 hours throughout Europe, thanking customers for their strong interest in the new electric VW.
Stackmann said that the ID 3 will be as large as the Golf from the outside, and have the spaciousness of a mid-size vehicle on the inside. There will be three versions including the 45kWh with a range of 200 miles, the 58kWh with 261 miles, and the 77kWh with 342 miles.
While that is a lot of pre-orders in one day’s time, news reports say that in April of 2016 there were 276,000 pre-orders over a 48-hour time period for Tesla’s Model 3.
What’s your opinion about electric cars? Would you be interested in one? The times are definitely changing.
